{"id":487,"date":"2015-02-11T20:33:20","date_gmt":"2015-02-11T20:33:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brutalhammer.com\/?p=487"},"modified":"2015-02-12T16:38:28","modified_gmt":"2015-02-12T16:38:28","slug":"shock-study-drinking-makes-you-happy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brutalhammer.com\/shock-study-drinking-makes-you-happy\/","title":{"rendered":"SHOCK STUDY: Drinking Makes You Happy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/drunkard.com\/issues\/57\/images\/booze-news-art-3.jpg\" alt=\"Well he looks happy\" width=\"200\" height=\"191\" align=\"right\" hspace=\"6\" \/>LOS ANGELES\u2014Drinking alcohol makes people feel better because it produces the same chemicals in the brain as exercising and laughing, a study has proved for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>Alcohol is excellent because it releases endorphins, which are the body\u2019s way of making us feel pleasure and reward, the research showed.<\/p>\n<p>The stress and pain-relieving proteins are released in the brain and other tissues, producing similar effects to opiates such as morphine.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Jennifer Mitchell, of the University of California, who led the study, said: \u2018\u2019This is something that we\u2019ve speculated about for 30 years, based on animal studies, but haven\u2019t observed in humans until now.\u201d Then, with a straight face, she added, \u201cIt provides the first direct evidence of how alcohol makes people feel good.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Dr Mitchell did not go on to explain as to whether she had ever actually stepped foot in a bar or ever been invited to a party where alcoholic beverages were served.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers scanned the brains of 13 heavy drinkers and 12 non-drinkers immediately after they drank alcohol. Their findings, published in the Science Translational Medicine journal, showed alcohol caused endorphins to be released in the nucleus accumbens and orbitofrontal cortex regions.<\/p>\n<p>In all of the volunteers, larger quantities of endorphins released in the nucleus accumbens were linked to increased feelings of pleasure.
