Last Monday the Santa Fe, New Mexico city Finance Committee debated whether the city should ban the sale of miniature liquor bottles. This prompts the immediate question: Why? What are these rascal politicians up to now? The measure’s sponsor, one Signe Lindell, asserts that the empty bottles litter the city. The Finance Committee deadlocked 2-2 on the issue, but the proposal will still go before the full City Council in April because some other committee meeting at some other time already approved it. This is how they roll in Santa Fe, apparently.
One sane member of the committee, Joseph Maestas, spoke out against the measure. “Frankly… the public expects us to really take on, I think, the bigger issues of the day.”
Yeah, I’d say that’s about right.
Santa Fe, ’nuff said.
I agree this seems to be a non-issue. Those bottles could be recycled. Does Santa Fe have any more miniature bottles than any other city?
Good points. Who knew Santa Fe was such a hotbed of mini-bottle boozing?
